About
This project is my final for English 402 Capstone at Adrian College. This is my last semester here and it hasn't been as easy as I thought but in the chaos I found beauty. On top of a global pandemic, my last semester of college, a new teaching job, and being pregnant (I know huge shock to me too), I have really tried to make this final piece of my schooling something I can walk away proud of. This assignment has, and trust me on this, blood, sweat, and tears in it. However, I couldn't have asked for anything more from my professors than the tools they have given me to leave with.
We were asked to create a research project but please let me inform you that this isn't your typical research project. There is a paper portion and then a visual project due for our final. To go in deeper what I mean by "not your typical research paper" I want to break down how I stumbled upon creating my own website and what this website means as a visual.
My "research" began with looking for paintings, after choosing 3 paintings (and this took WAY longer than you'd think) I created poems based on my interpretation or feelings, initial reactions, of the painting. My paintings are all landscape paintings around the 18th-19th century (I had a slight focus on the Romantic Period). After creating these poems which I tried to have 30-40 lines in each. Following the poem, I gave a reasoning for creating the poem and the context for the poem. After that I did research on the artist of the poem, not just simply the painting in relation to the poem but who they are and thier careers as artists. Lastly, in relation to the poem and artist, I created a connection between my interpretation and who they are, basically if what I had written would make sense with the art piece. Furthering my research I wrote more about art techniques and how that influences artwork. I took my research another step and begin looking at eco-criticism and its impact on paintings and culture.
The paintings:
Pastoral Landscape with a Mill by Claude Lorrain
Wooded Landscape with a Peasant Resting by Thomas Gainsborough
Landscape with an Aqueduct by Theodore Gericault
